Sheriff Arpaio avoids Colbert’s traps

According to a story reported on Phoenix New Times Arpaio managed to avoid making any sensation during his interview with Steven Colbert on the Colbert Report

Basically tossing out softball questions and hoping to provide a chance for Arpaio to mis-speak Colbert got the point asking about immigration.

“Let’s put these accusations to bed, that you racially profile, because you don’t, correct?” Colbert asked, and anyone familiar with the show knew to perk up, in case Arpaio gave Colbert any rope to hang him with.

“Correct,” is all he said, though Colbert did get off one of his better lines of the night:

“How do you . . . determine if somebody might be Hispanic without using your eyeballs?” Then, after much laughter, “Do you have a sixth sense that says, ‘I’m gonna ask for that guy’s ID and not that guy’s ID?’”

Sheriff Arpaio avoided any traps and continued with his message.  The reporter from New Times, Stephen Lemons and I agree, a much better show would have place Sheriff Arpaio across from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.  Stewart has repeatedly shown himself to be one of the best modern reporters of our time.  All from the desk of a comedy show.

I’ll add the video later, but for now the overall message is if you missed the show you didn’t miss much.
